Plump dots of sweetness that burst in your mouth is the best way to describe perfect blueberries. In Virginia, they are perfectly available in season from May through July, and now that we are in the very beginning of August, enthusiasts are making their way to farmers markets and supermarkets to get the last of the best blueberries available.
However, year-round, they are a perfect snack to pop throughout your day. This classic fruit is clinically proven to protect against memory loss by simply eating one serving a week. The 2012 study suggested that this weekly serving slowed cognitive decline by several years by clearing toxins that accumulate in the brain.
A compound called anthocyanin is what gives blueberries their beautiful blue color and is what gives the blueberry its many health benefits. This incredible antioxidant can help heart health, skin health, bone strength, help regulate blood pressure, help prevent cancer, and improve your mental health.
One cup of blueberries provides 24% of your daily recommended amount of vitamin C, and they also contain a high level of vitamin K. Blueberries also contain an incredible number of minerals such as iron, phosphorous, magnesium, calcium, zinc, and manganese. The collagen produced by our own bodies relies on vitamin C, and with blueberries being packed with vitamin C, they can help prevent sun, pollution, and smoke damage to the skin. This also helps improve the body’s ability to smooth wrinkles and enhance your overall skin texture.
